An equine foot is a study in perfect engineering. The marvel of each component is enough to make even the most uninterested person shake their head and go "Wow." Letting the equine foot work as it was designed to is what Natural Hoof Care is all about. We're not trying to figure out how to make the foot look like we think it should look; we're learning to observe the foot and let it tell us what it needs to make the horse healthy and comfortable.
Did you know that a horse's foot was designed to grow protective layers of callus? Did you know that shoes were first put on horses to aid in warfare? Did you know that there are two pieces of cartilage in each hoof capsule designed to support the foot during landing, and those cartilages grow with each foot fall? Since 1998, Monica has taken an active interest in trimming and shoeing and whenever possible, watched every move her farriers made. She began taking lessons from her farrier and studying books and videos. With the emergence of science based instructors like Pete Ramey, KC La Pierre and Jaime Jackson, new ground breaking information is taking the equine world to new realizations of how a performance foot should be cared for.
